Did You Know?

Updated: Mar 29

Did you know that a clever fellow from Andes invented the ‘ice buggy’?

The ‘ice buggy’ was patented by another inventor in 2007. However, Mr.

Benjamin Sandford did it first!

DONNIE LEONARD with ICE BUGGY on PERCH LAKE - January 1937

My mother [Donnie Leonard] is pictured in this January 1937 photo, taken at Perch Lake by Mr. Benjamin Sanford. Ben was apparently a clever fellow, as he made this "ICE BUGGY" which was propelled across the frozen surface of the lake with a small gasoline engine which turned a propeller. Ben was courting Donnie at the time, but in the end she married Claude Kelly of Margaretville and helped him run the hotel there.
